Salimos de Quito con esa emoción tranquila que solo traen los viajes cortos, esos que no necesitan grandes planes, solo ganas de desconectar y volver a mirarnos sin prisas. El camino hacia Baños siempre es una invitación a bajar el ritmo, y nosotros decidimos hacerlo desde el primer kilómetro.
La primera parada fue en Machachi, donde el desayuno sabe a hogar y a tradición. Café caliente, pan recién hecho y la certeza de que el viaje recién empezaba. Un poco más adelante, como manda la costumbre, hicimos escala obligatoria para disfrutar un helado de Salcedo, porque hay sabores que también son parte del camino. Antes de seguir, Pelileo nos recibió con su color y aroma: compramos capulí, pequeño recordatorio de que viajar también es llevarse pedacitos del lugar para después.
Llegamos a Baños cuando la tarde comenzaba a caer, y la noche nos regaló una de sus mejores versiones. Caminamos sin rumbo fijo por el centro, pasando por la iglesia iluminada, descubriendo arte en las calles y dejándonos sorprender por cafeterías de experiencias que invitan a quedarse más de lo planeado. Algo que nos encantó fue descubrir cómo la ciudad se renueva: nuevos espacios que ofrecen una increíble variedad de comida y cócteles sin licor (mocktails), pensados para disfrutar con calma, conversar y brindar sin excesos. Baños sigue siendo el mismo, pero siempre encuentra la forma de mostrarse diferente.
El día siguiente fue para el cuerpo y el alma. Piscinas, agua tibia y silencio compartido, ese lujo sencillo que se vuelve imprescindible cuando el año empieza cargado de retos. Relajarnos juntos fue recordar que también somos prioridad, que no todo es correr, producir o cumplir.
El regreso lo hicimos por Píllaro, y el viaje nos tenía preparada una sorpresa final: vivir de cerca la Diablada de Píllaro, una explosión de cultura, máscaras y energía que nos recordó lo poderosa que es la tradición cuando se vive en el lugar donde nace. Volvimos a Quito con el corazón lleno y la sensación de haber iniciado el año con el pie correcto.
Este viaje nos dejó claro uno de nuestros objetivos del año: viajar cada cierto tiempo, aunque sea cerca, aunque sea por pocos días. No importa cuántas veces hayamos ido a Baños, siempre hay algo nuevo por descubrir, una experiencia distinta que vivir y una razón más para volver. Viajar en pareja, sin hijos, es también reencontrarnos, renovar energías y recordarnos que el camino se disfruta mejor cuando se comparte.

Always Baños: A Destination You Never Stop Discovering
We left Quito with that calm excitement that only short trips bring—the kind that doesn’t need big plans, just the desire to disconnect and enjoy each other without rushing. The road to Baños is always an invitation to slow down, and we chose to do just that from the very first kilometer.
Our first stop was Machachi, where breakfast tastes like home and tradition. Hot coffee, freshly baked bread, and the feeling that the journey was only just beginning. A little further along, as tradition dictates, we made a mandatory stop to enjoy a Salcedo ice cream, because some flavors are simply part of the journey. Before continuing, Pelileo welcomed us with its colors and aromas, and we bought capulí, a small reminder that traveling also means taking a piece of the place with you.
We arrived in Baños as the afternoon began to fade, and the night showed us one of its best versions. We wandered aimlessly through the town center, passing the illuminated church, discovering street art, and letting ourselves be surprised by experience-based cafés that invite you to stay longer than planned. One thing we loved was seeing how the city keeps evolving: new spots offering a wide variety of food and non-alcoholic cocktails (mocktails), perfect for enjoying at a relaxed pace, talking, and toasting without excess. Baños remains the same at heart, yet it always finds a way to feel different.
The next day was all about body and soul. Thermal pools, warm water, and shared silence—a simple luxury that becomes essential when the year begins full of challenges. Relaxing together reminded us that we are also a priority, and that life isn’t only about rushing, producing, or meeting deadlines.
We returned via Píllaro, and the trip had one last surprise waiting for us: experiencing the Diablada de Píllaro up close, an explosion of culture, masks, and energy that reminded us how powerful tradition is when lived where it was born. We came back to Quito with full hearts and the feeling that we had started the year on the right note.
This getaway made one of our goals for the year very clear: to travel every so often, even if it’s close by, even if it’s just for a few days. It doesn’t matter how many times we’ve been to Baños—there is always something new to do, a different experience to live, and one more reason to return. Traveling as a couple, without children, is also about reconnecting, recharging, and reminding ourselves that the journey is always better when shared.
